Parish Coming Together - An Outstanding Dialogue
27th February 2018

The Annual Coming Parish Together event on Sunday 25 February 2018 was topped off by a dialogue between the guest speaker - Katie Ascough; former President of UCD Students' Union, freelance journalist and pro-life campaigner against the repeal of the Eighth Amendment in the Republic of Ireland - and Declan Lawn; BBC journalist and producer.

The Parish Pastoral Council began by reporting on its activities and plans and outlining the various Parish events in preparation for the World Meeting of Families in August 2018. This was followed by the inspiring dialogue in which Declan explored with Katie her early life and her election as President of the UCD Students' Union. Katie then described the events that led fellow students who were opposed to her views to bring about her impeachment and characterised the difficulties of defending her rights to free speech. The main dialogue was followed by a Q&A session based on questions submitted by the audience. Those present showed their appreciation of Katie's contributions with a standing ovation.
