A Message from Fr Edward O'Donnell

13th April 2026

Dear Parishioners,

On 13th June next, I will celebrate the Golden Jubilee of my Ordination, and at the same time, I will have served for sixteen years as Parish Priest of St Brigid’s.

Shortly before Christmas last, I indicated to the Bishop that, given my age, I felt the time had come for me to retire. The Bishop and I discussed this further after Christmas, and it was agreed that I would retire this coming summer. So, 13th June will mark not only my Golden Jubilee, but also my official retirement as Parish Priest. While willing to accommodate the Bishop, as he prepares to make a new appointment, I expect to leave the Parish soon after that date.

Given my age, and length of service, my retirement will hardly come as a surprise, nevertheless, it is always difficult to sever bonds. Your prayers and support, which I hope will continue, have always meant a great deal to me. However, this is not the moment for reflection - there may be an opportunity for that on another occasion. At this time, I just want to let you know of the change that will take place in the Parish this summer.

Yours sincerely,

Fr Eddie O’Donnell.
