Season of Creation

1st September 2026

Season of Creation 2026 (1 September – 4 October). Join us …

The Season of Creation is the annual Christian celebration which invites us to respond in hope and commit to positive action meeting the challenge and responsibility to care for creation - our common home. The challenge has been underlined by Pope Francis in Laudato Si’ (2015) Laudato Deum (2023) and Pope Leo XIV in his message for World Day of Prayer for Care of Creation 2025 .

As we journey through the Season of Creation from 1 September through to the feast-day of St Francis of Assisi on 4 October, let us each take one action to care for our planet, our common home.

The theme for this season is ‘Living Water’ symbolised by a small stream flowing from the Temple of God - growing into a deep and powerful river. Every act of care for creation becomes part of a global stream of hope” (Living Water Season of Creation 2026).

What action will we take in this season to show care for our planet, our common home?

Action an Eco - tip

• Endeavour to buy locally sourced food on one shopping visit

• Make one journey on foot or use public transport

• Select one day and turn off all non- essential lights

Start the conversation with family and friends – what can we do to care for our common home? Involve young people in our conversations – their voice matters - they will inherit the planet that we create.

Meet up Thursday 3 September 10am (after morning Mass) foyer of St Brigid’s Church.

Let’s rise to the challenge

Pope Frances had every confidence that we can make change happen.

‘All of us can cooperate as instruments of God for the care of creation, each according to his or her own culture, experience, involvements and talents’ (LS14).

We are continuing our discussions around moving to solar panels - an action to reduce parish building carbon emissions.
